We started kayaktranslation in 2016 because Kansas City had a clear need that most translation agencies were not meeting. The major health systems, law firms, and logistics companies in the region were dealing with an expanding multilingual population and increasingly complex international operations, and they needed translators who actually understood their industries, not just their languages.
Our foundation was healthcare and legal translation, the two areas where errors have the most direct consequences. Over time we expanded to technical and engineering, business and financial, eDiscovery support, and community services. In each case, we built out a network of translators with real professional backgrounds in those fields, not people who had simply added a subject area to their profile.
We operate from Kansas City. Most of our work is digital, so we work with clients across Missouri, Kansas, and nationwide. Our most active language pairs reflect the communities we most frequently serve: English-Spanish, English-Somali, English-Vietnamese, English-French, and English-Arabic.
How we work
Subject specialists
Every translation is done by a linguist with professional experience in the relevant subject area. Medical content goes to translators with clinical backgrounds, legal content to translators with legal training.
Internal review
A second, independent linguist reviews every translation before it leaves. The reviewer is different from the translator and brings a fresh read to the finished document.
No machine translation
We do not use machine translation or AI post-editing for any document type. This is a standing policy, not a case-by-case decision. All translation is done by human translators.

We are based in Kansas City, Missouri, in the North Kansas City corridor near the US-169 junction. Most of our client work is handled digitally, which means we serve organizations across Missouri, Kansas, and beyond.
